This is the place to post all our speculation and comments about Steffi's monthly appearance on CFRA's "Last Call" from midnight-2 a.m.
She is going to be on the air Feb. 9. If you have the latest version of Windows Media Player or Real Player, I think you can listen to the show on the Internet if you go to the station's Web site.
Since it's a late-Thursday night/early Friday morning thing, I probably won't stay up and listen to the entire thing live. I'll try to find a way to tape it, but I don't know if I'll have any luck. If one of you figure out a way to do it, let me know.

I just downloaded the latest version of Real Player, so I can get CFRA on my comp now. I'll see what other programs I can find.
I wish we could find out how that first episode of Steffi's show went and what they talked about. I want to see if this is just a gossip chat fest or a serious news commentary show about current events and issues. I haven't looked at all of the women's bios yet, but so far I haven't found anything too out-of-the-ordinary. I'm pretty sure Steffi is the youngest among them.
Combatbaby, did Steffi tell you anything about this before we read about it on the blog? If so, what did she say?

I've tried several different programs, and I still can't get a way to record from my speakers. There should be an option in my audio mixer that isn't there. It's probably because I have an old sound card.
I have a friend who can record audio, but he can only do it if he can find a way to make his audio editor automatically record from midnight-2 a.m. If I can't find a way to tape the show, I'll hopefully get a new computer in a month or two and I won't have to mess with this outdated junk I have right now.

Steffi wasn't on the air last night. Instead, the normal two male hosts from "Last Call" were on and were talking about Anna Nicole Smith, the crazy astronaut woman and Stephane Dion's plan to bar men from running for some Liberal candidacies. So either: a.) Steffi misspoke and meant that she'd be performing at midnight on Jan 10 (which is really Saturday but could be called "Friday night") b.) Some unforeseen event happened which forced the women to cancel the show or c.) Steffi fell asleep before the show began and they had to replace her. ;D I hope "a." is correct. We'll find out tonight...

Steffi was on tonight. I'll say more about my take on the show and Steffi's contribution to it once I gather my thoughts. Overall, the show was all right if you're judging it as a radio version of "The View." But I don't think I'm the audience it is trying to reach. As one of the co-hosts admitted, women and men think differently. There were lots of personal stories, feelings and intuition but little actual debate--the mother's milk of most talk radio. As a result, I sometimes got bored when Steffi wasn't talking. Although the comedian was witty, I think the show would've been feistier had there been one or two male co-hosts who could help steer the conversation. As it stood, I found most of the discussion too female-focused or vague to call in with a strong opinion. It was interesting to hear Steffi talk about herself, and I'm glad I listened to the show (I'll recap what she said later). However, I sensed that she was either unsure or uncomfortable about expressing her own opinions, especially when the topic wasn't about relationships. I think part of the reason is that she's young and lacks the life experiences that the other women have. Next time, Steffi should suggest a couple of topics in advance that are more youthful, universal or relevant to her. I'll write more tomorrow!

OK, I'm back. I'll list a few of the things that Steffi said. I might remember more stuff later. Being that there were five people there and much of the talking was between the moderator and the comedian, it was like mining two hours of rock for five minutes of gold. But Steffi did say: She's rather perform in a musical like "Avenue Q" than "Phantom of the Opera." She has been singing since she was about 8. She has taken roughly four years of dance, mostly tap and jazz. She said she's a pretty good dancer but not an expert. She doesn't really idolize any particular pop singer but has great respect for anyone who can make it on Broadway. She isn't obsessed with Valentine's Day but believes it's important for a guy to recognize it. She also believes in "happily ever after" and referenced what another co-host said about couples doing simple things for each other when they're old. She wondered if the consequences of global warming could determind whether people are still going to be on the planet 2 million years later. (My response: Don't worry about it unless you plan to live on this earth for 2 million years. ;D) When she was 13 in grade school, the teachers would force everyone to go outside for recess even when it was extremely hot or cold. So she and some fo her friends used to hide in the girls bathroom and stand on the toilets so no one could see them. ---- I have to clarify something and separate the format of the show (which I could take or leave) and Steffi's actual performance. I have to give her credit for trying to do a project like this. Steffi was her usual bubbly self, and she has a good radio voice. She enunciated clearly and was personable to the callers. It's not like she bombed or anything. She just was overshadowed by the the Majic DJ and the comedian for the reasons I explained above. But if Steffi does this for a few more months, I think she'll get more comfortable speaking up. And at any rate, it's good experience for her résumé, so I give her credit for doing it.

I recorded the show because I had to get up really early this morning and couldnt stay up until 2. Its funny about how when they were forced to go outside they would go into the washrooms and stand on the toilets, because thats exactly what me and my friends used to do last year when it was to cold outside ;D

Seriously? That's the first time I've ever heard of someone doing that. The winters usually get cold over here too.
BAMR, did you record the show onto a tape or on your computer? My sound card doesn't let me record from my computer's stereo, but I'll be getting a new computer in a month or two if all goes well.

To all who listened to the program, what were your thoughts about it besides the toilet incident?
The saddest part of the show might've been when the co-hosts were talking about how women always compete against each other. During that conversation, Steffi chimed in and brought up how they often think another girl is skinnier than them. I hope Steffi doesn't do that, because I have a message for her if she does: YOU'RE. NOT. FAT. By a long shot. You don't have to be a rail like the anorexic girls in Hollywood, and curves are a good thing!
I also got a little upset when I was watching the show, but I didn't realize why until the next day. Girls, be direct and honest with your boyfriends. If you want something in particular for V-Day, don't beat around the bush and then get mad when he doesn't get it for you. Playing games with your guy isn't cute or clever--it's insecure and insulting. Had I realized what bothered me, I would've called in.
The most surprising part of the show was that the women who talked about politics seemed to be middle-of-the-road. Maybe it's just because they only spoke on two issues (environment/global warming and gov't involvement with parenting), but I still thought it would've been different, being eastern Canada and all.
